Course Objective

This course comprises the teaching of historical development of principles of basic camera and lighting technologies in cinema and TV productions, camera, camera movements, camera angles, shooting scales, lighting, qualities of lighting and also practical teaching of cinematography director.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Ability to define and choose the appropriate CAmera and Lighting accessories fort he film Project
2   Ability to be acquianted with the shooting and lighting devices and to use them.
3   To Know the general shooting and lighting terminology.
4   Ability to operate the camera and lighting accessories.
5   Ability to set the necessary shooting, lighting and filtering milieu in order to enable shooting of a scene.
6   Ability to operate all the auxillary shooting and lighting accessories.
7   To possess the necessary knowledge fort he cinematography of productions such as documentary,clip,commercial or drama.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Checking and analyzing new Technologies:
The encountered practical skills met during the application studio practices and project development phase, will be shown in practice by the instructor, in the first and the last hour of the course each week. The participation of students in class discussions, and presentation of their ideas and views on the preparation of projects will be encouraged significantly.

Applications
In the process of application and project, students will be informed through a model Project, about the method they should use in the production phase .

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

1- Students will prepare Project in a genre of their choice, using the camera and lighting systems.

2- Using different camera and lighting types the student will be able to design creative lighting techniques.

3- Marks obtained by student participation will depend on ,
(1) the state of attendance,
(2) the student's answers to the questions asked by the instructor during the class and quality of project work in the classroom
(3) the student's contribution for the creation of a positive learning environment.

Assessment Criteria

1. Attendance in homework and projects applications, perception and skill proficiency will be considered.

Course Policies and Rules

1- Attendance of 70% is obligatory.
2- Unattendance of the course will not be considered as a valid excuse for the homework assignments and projects that are submitted late.
3- Delayed Project: for each day of delay the final mark will be reduced by the equivalent to a letter grade .
