Course Objective

The aim of this course is to realize an original miniature composition by researching by which materials and techniques the miniature applications are made as well as to which extent. The students are also expected to provide new suggestions on the material and techniques.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   After the education given by this course, students are supposed to realize the process of today s miniature applications in Turkey and in the world; be informed of the exhibition and usage range of the miniatures,
2   present new suggestions for application by making individual researches about today s techniques and materials,
3   fix a theme to describe in miniature design and make researches on images related to the theme, and know their symbolic meanings,
4   make up an original miniature composition in accordance with the materials and techniques they have explored,
5   apply and present this composition with high-quality.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

In this course, the students will be informed about current applications, areas of usage and exhibition techniques of miniature art in Turkey and in the world, and they will be directed to researches related to current applications. By the help of the research made by using different compositions and different application techniques, the students will be made to suggest new materials, techniques and application areas. For this, the students will be asked to make a visual presentation related to today s miniature artists and their works. During the presentations, we aim that they will discuss the new ideas and share them. In order to make an original miniature application, the students will choose the subject by themselves, and they will be supported to be creative in accordance with the materials and techniques. At the designing stage, the discussions on the sketches and compositions will be realized in the first and last lessons every week by the instructor.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

This course involves 2 theoretical course credits; and 2 practical course credits. The attendance is very important because the students can learn the application techniques by following the lesson as those techniques are introduced one to one. We will observe the students creativity in using the application techniques and other materials in different ways, and the clarity of the composition factors and symbols that they have used to express the subject visually as well as the visual resource and sketches they are going to prepare. After the studies in the term, they will present the subject in an original composition and this presentation will be evaluated.

Assessment Criteria

The project, assignment presentation and attendance will be evaluated out of 100.

Course Policies and Rules

After the theoretical information is given both orally and written, the practical studies are done one to one with the students. 80 % attendance is compulsory. The students will be informed about the following lesson and are supposed to make preliminary research on the subject.
