Course Objective

The aim of this course is to teach the students the documentation stages of parcel work in tile works, one of our chattel cultural assets. Moreover, the students will learn to provide the missing parts to complete the form, and to complete the pattern on the same form. Besides, we aim to teach the students the materials used for restoration; their introduction and usage for both chemical and mechanical application.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   use the techniques, employed in different disciplines, in their field while completing the parcel work in tile forms,
2   use the knowledge that they gained during chemical and mechanical applications necessary for restoration stages of tile ceramics archaeological works
3   use the technological and scientific resources in documentation stages of Tiling Ceramics parcel works ( drawing, photo etc.)
4   before the provision of the missing parts of archaeological works, define the work in accordance with material and production,have professional responsibility and ethical awareness in accordance with the provision of the missing pattern-composition parts in the works having form unity.
5   present the tile-ceramics forms whose missing parts have been completed effectively.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Informing the students about the content of the lesson, which is about completing the missing parts in Tile works; instructing tiling restoration methods
2 Instructing the documentation and washing the form whose missing parts will be completed ( Cleaning materials and liquids)
3 Introducing filling material, instructing the classifying and pre-combining the form parts, and working on the completion of tile object having 50% missing part
4 Instructing Resin and materials used for stripping and casting, completing the missing parts of the determined form
5 The methods and materials for binding and combining, and missing completion works
6 Instructing and applying the methods for filling and modelling in missing completion
7 Stripping and casting works in missing completion
8 Completing the missing part of the form and informing about completion methods
9 Retouching and applying paints on the completed form
10 Informing about restoration of glazed works and starting to complete the 75% of the chosen tile form
11 Going on with the studies
12 Presenting the restoration project of the completed tile object and explaining the strategies of the work
13 Presenting the restoration project of the completed tile object and explaining the strategies of the work, and submitting the work by a written report

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

In this course, the students will be given hypothetical information about the parcel work completion in tiling-ceramics works. Moreover, within the scope of the completing project of the parcel work, the students will be instructed the missing completion methods for archaeological tiles and ceramics having various forms and shapes, and the applications will be done in the lessons.

Assessment Criteria

The exams will be evaluated out of 100 in accordance with the number of the questions. The students will be informed about the value of each question before the exam. The grade will be determined in accordance with the answers. Project evaluation and presentation will evaluated out of 100.

Course Policies and Rules

The students coming to class late will be admitted but accepted half-attended. All attendance will be evaluated by the rate mentioned above. At the end of each lesson, the students are informed about the following lesson s subject as a research subject. So, the lessons start with these researches and discussions.
