Course Objective

The aim of this course is to teach students the related resources and the techniques of definition and application of pattern design principles in Turkish art of Illumination with use of academic discipline and examination process.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To define academic discipline and examination process in Turkish art of illumination and make connection with related disciplines.
2   To systematize the principles and application methods of pattern drawing in Turkish art of illumination.
3   To use pattern drawing principles and analyze them with examples.
4   To compare the the pattern drawing principles in turkish art of illumination with other disciplines and analyze the data.
5   To present examples which show their skills and competence in their profession, by using pattern drawing principles of Turkish art of illumination.

3 Functions of compositions in Turkish Art of Illumination.
4 Different techniques of stylization in Turkish Art of Illumination.
5 Similar and different features of motifs Turkish Art of Illumination and in different cultures.
6 Development of 'Bulut'(cloud) motifs in Turkish Art of Illumination, in Anatolia.
7 Functions of " Rumi" in compositions.
8 The functions of " iplik motif" in compositions.
9 The functions of "tığ " in compositions
10 Different technical drawings and drawing variations
11 Manners of "Ayırma motifleri" design
12 Showing stages of original design projects and Turkish Art of Illumination pattern design.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

In this course, the pieces about pattern design, related resources, collected editions and terminology of related subject will be introduced. The techniques of pattern drawing in Turkish art of illumination will be shown schematically and step by step. Unique pattern drawing stages and completed parts will be shown on a project chosen as an example.

Assessment Criteria

In order to number of questions in the exams, the mark distributions out of 100 points will be announced before the exams and the total result will be evaluated. The project, homework presentation and attendance will be evaluated out of 100 points.

Students who come to class late are evaluated as attended the half of the class. All of the attendances are evaluated in order to percentages given above. At the end of the classes, the subject of next class is announced to students as study-research subject. The course begin with the discussion of study- research results before presentation of the subject.
