Course Objective

The aim of this course is to search for the artists in Turkish Art of Illumination and their cults, and to determine the differences between them. Moreover, we aim to teach the effects of the illuminations made in the regions such as Herat, Şiraz, Tebriz on the writings with illuminations made in Anatolia. The cult features learnt technically and in terms of style will be used in original designs. ( Hilye, the frame of celi writing, royal decree, sultan s signature, etc.)

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   learn the cults of Turkish Art of Illumination,
2   reach the writings with different cults in the domestic and overseas museums and libraries, and analyse them,
3   use the analysis of the techniques, compositions, patterns and colours seen in different cults
4   have the ability to present the information which they have gained about their specialty field
5   have the ability to present the information which they have gained about their specialty field.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Each student will determine the writing works belonging to Herat, Şiraz, Tebriz cults in the domestic and overseas libraries and museums, and will catalogue them. He will use the data in his original designs. It is essential for the students to use the knowledge in their designs to show their ability.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

This course is both theoretical and practical with 2 credits for each. In the educational period, the students will be given a mid-term and a final to have them comprehend the subjects in the lessons. In these exams, the subjects given in the lessons will be examined to see how much they have been apprehended and how the practises related to the designs have been turned into ability. Moreover, the students are asked to prepare a homework on the subjects they have gained, and present them

Assessment Criteria

The exams will be evaluated out of 100 in accordance with the number of the questions. The students will be informed about the value of each question before the exam. The grade will be determined in accordance with the answers. Project evaluation, homework presentation and attendance will evaluated out of 100.

Course Policies and Rules

The students coming into the class late will be admitted but accepted half-attended. All attendance will be evaluated by the rate mentioned above. At the end of each lesson, the students are informed about the following lesson s subject as a research subject. So, the lessons start with these researches and discussions.
