Course Objective

It s aimed to teach modeling and molding with plaster, that one of the auxilary material for shaping ceramics, by practical and theoretical methods.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   At the end of this course these qualifications will be expected from the students; To be capable of shaping ceramic forms via learning plaster forming and mold making.
2   To have theoretical and terminological knowledge related to plaster material, its forming and mold making.
3   To be capable of creating proper and ingenious designs related to projects.
4   To have information about the transition methods of the project design to production.
5   To have information about using the equipment regarding the project to realize it.
6   To be capable of finishing the project complete and in time.
7   To be capable of working responsively as a team member.

Course Contents

1 Decleration of the projects and required equipment.
2 Supplying the equipment and evaluation of first project s sketches.
3 Approvaling of sketches for technical analysing and preparation of supplemantary materials. Evaluation of second project s sketches and discussing the theoretical information regarding projects.
4 Beginning and finishing of the first project s plaster model and finalizng the technical analyses related to second project s design. Discussing the theoretical information regarding topics.
5 Beginning and finishing of the first project s plaster model and finalizing the technical analyses related to second project s design. Discussing the theoretical information regarding topics.
6 Finalizing first project and approval of the second project.
7 Beginning of the second project. Selection of glaze to be used for second project.
8 Modeling phase of the second project.
9 Completion of modeling, molding and content development of presentation files of the second project.
10 Completion of modeling, molding and content development of presentation files of the second project.
11 Slipcasting of project model and bisque firing. Preparing the design boards of both projects.
12 Slipcasting of project model and bisque firing. Preparing the design boards of both projects.
13 Glazing and glaze firing. Preparation of exhibition as the third project.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Lecturer will guide the students via informing about analyzing the project in technical and aesthetic manners and creating final products. The steps in the production process respectively will be sketching, technical analysing, technical drawing, plaster modeling, plaster molding, slip casting and firing the ceramic product. The student also will be responsible for theoretical researches, presentations and exhibitions related to projects

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

Evaluation will be made from creative designing, technical analysing and technical drawing, precision in modeling and molding, qualification of theoretical researches and presentation files, and exhibiting of the project. In addition, carefulness of the student on keeping of the workshop and teamworking performance will be also taken into consideration. The class will be divided into two sessions and student will be responsible for signing in respect of attendance and also will be counted absent along unattended sessions

1-% 80 Attendance is compulsory.
2-All kinds of pilagiarism will result in disciplinary action.
3-Delivery of the projects on time and attandence of final presentation are obligatory.
4-Student will be responsible from the problems of misusing electric motorized equipment and hand tools.
5-Student will be responsible for the workshop s operating conditions and cleanliness .
