Course Objective

This course aims students to have information about extraordinary material and techniques in addition to materials and classical jewelry techniques that are used in jewelry design and including these material after research process for the given project, having contemporary, innovative and authentic approach by using creative idea analysis and designing methods, forming jewelry collections, making detailed analysis of parts which will form collection.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Expectations from student after this course are; To be able to improve authentic and creative designs which have aesthetical values according to design principals and trend analysis
2   Bringing new point of view in to jewelry design and production by using different materials in addition to classical materials and techniques in jewelry design.
3   Creating jewelry collection by understanding that material and techniques can direct design.
4   to be able to make analysis /comment/critics during design and produce jewelry and ornament
5   to be able to create design and products which can be exhibited in international contemporary jewelry platform
6   Present its products in effective way and to be able to defend manufactured products in jury evaluation

Course Contents

1 Reminding traditional and contemporary jewelry forming methods and related applications by visual presentations
2 Conveying examples of interdisciplinary materials and techniques which are adapted to jewelry design and conveying first project information, necessary material information, research and sketch process to the students
3 Evaluations and technical discussions of related techniques, design and materials for the project
4 Approval of designs, technical analysis with respect to production criteria and preparation to product manufacturing stage. Manufacturing of selected designs in workshop
5 Production of selected sketches in workshop
6 Production of selected sketches in workshop
7 Production of selected sketches in workshop
8 Ending concluding production within scope of first project and conveying information of 2nd project, necessary materials research and sketch process to students.
9 Visual research and sketch developing process, evaluation and discussion for technique design and materials related with project
10 Approval of design, manufacturing of selected product in workshop
11 Production of selected sketches in workshop

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Within Content of Course; 1- Research: Educator of the course conveys project information, necessary material and project process to students within scope of course and requests from students to make visual research within scope of given project.
2- Sketch/ Design Process and Technical Analysis
After the result of requested research sketches of students are transformed into designs within framework of design criteria, creativity and authenticity criteria. Appropriateness of designs with project, their reproducibility and ergonomics of manufactured products are considered and designs are developed. After approval of designs; their technical analysis with respect to manufacturing criteria is realized. Material which are determined for design and manufacturing techniques of students are discussed and suggestions are made, absents are completed. Production stages for each student s design/collection are listed.
3- Production Process, Jury Evaluation
Production starts in workshop after specification of production stage which can be different with respect to design.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

Course evaluation stage;
1- researches of student related with project, performance of student from sketch process to realization of production, reasonable approaches for product s technical analysis during workshop study, appropriateness of study with reproducibility and usability and workmanship in production will be considered,
2-. Attendance of student in workshop courses, performance of student in workshop application and jury evaluation will be considered and evaluation will be performed.

Course Policies and Rules

1.There is an 80 % obligation in attendance to lesson.
2. All plagiarism attempts and actions would end up in disciplinary punishment
3. If one doesn't hand over the required sketch- design studies on time, the evaluation would be carried out by taking this into consideration. But the student is supposed to hand over required things.
4. For late project deliveries, decreasing a letter grade for each day will be applied.
