Course Objective

Objectives of this course are to make court and equipment knowledge; playing rules and also to teach them ball handling exercises, educational games and basic skills (underhand pass, overhead pass, serve, dive) related with novice volleyball players.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Explaining the history of volleyball.
2   Expressing basic playing rules.
3   Preparing educational games related with novice players and making the players to perform these games.
4   Preparing exercises including ball handling related with novice players and making the novice players to perform these exercises.
5   basic playing postures and foot works related with novice players and making the novice players to perform these exercises.

Course Contents

1 Volleyball specific general and specific warm-up methods, volleyball specific educational games
2 Exercises including ball handling,
3 Volleyball basic playing postures and foot works
4 Understanding the progressive teaching of front, back, jump and lateral overhead pass
5 Progressive teaching of front underhand pass
6 Understanding the progressive teaching of back, jump and lateral underhand pass
7 Progressive teaching of underhand and tennis serve ; parallel and cross court serve,
8 Progressive teaching of spike; parallel and cross court spike
9 Receiving the serve and defense for spike drills with two-three-more players
10 Volleyball playing rules, team formation
11 Setting offence and defense systems for children, youth and young players, and game movements during the volleyball match
12 Volleyball playing rules, forming basic and intermediate training programmes
