Course Objective

Is to gain knowledge and skills on defining common hand and upper extremity pathologies, physical therapy assessments and rehabilitation approaches for these pathologies.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Knows anatomy and biomechanics of hand and upper extremity
2   Defines hand and upper extremity pathologies
3   Understands basic principles of hand and upper extremity rehabilitation
4   Assesses hand and upper extremity
5   Plan and conduct specific rehabilitation for hand and upper extremity pathologies
6   Syntheses information related to the topic and presents the outcomes orally and visually

1 Development of hand rehabilitation in Turkey and current status Functional anatomy and biomechanics of the hand
2 Assessment in hand pathologies Hand and upper extremity outcome measurement tools
3 Sensory assessment, reeducation, desensitization
4 Hand fractures and joint injuries Rehabilitation of traumatic hand and hand replantation
5 Distal radius fractures
6 Flexor and extensor tendon injuries
7 Rehabilitation of peripheral nevre injuries
8 Tenolysis, tendon grafts, tendon transfers and physical therapy
9 Wrist: Carpal fractures, carpal instability, arhrodesis, artroscopy
10 Arthritis and other rheumatic problems (synovitis/tenosynovitis) and physical therapy
11 Wounds and burns in hand
12 Complex regional pain syndrome, stiff hand and physical therapy
13 Upper extremity nerve entrapments-compressions
14 Common shoulder problems, sports injuries
15 Congenital brachial plexus palsy
