Course Objective

The aim of this course is to examine the stages involved in the writing process, explain the different types of essays written for different purposes and write expository and argumentative essays by using the information gathered in the research process.

1   Explain the stages in the writing process.
2   Determine how to access different resources in the planning stage.
3   Compare and contrast between different organizational patterns in the writing stage.
4   Paraphrase and quote information from different sources.
5   Summarize and synthesize information from different sources.
6   Write complete essays using information gathered from various resources.

4. Reading materials and sample essays will be given weekly. Students are expected to submit eight homeworks that will help them practice the essay types and strategies taught in class. Attendance and participation will also be graded.

Assessment Criteria

1. A written midterm exam and a written final exam will be given throughout the term.
2.Students are also expected to submit eight individual homeworks.
