Course Objective

The aim of this course is to research nature and urban depicts that develop and become widespread in 16th century Ottoman Miniature Art, and make new nature, urban and environment depicts which are suitable for current structure and reflect it.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   After the education given with this course, the students are supposed to know the styles in Ottoman Miniature Art in general,
2   know the natural and urban depicts of Matrakçı Nasuh in 16th century, and be informed of this style,
3   know the traditional and modern materials used in Ottoman miniature and be informed of the techniques,
4   know our artists practising the nature, environment and urban depicts and comprehend the techniques,
5   assess their researches on existing or non-existing city, place or a mere architecture, and make up an original composition using the visual materials effectively.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

In this course, we will examine natural and urban depicts in Ottoman miniatures and students will make original practices describing today s cities and places by using the point of view of miniature. Before the project has completed, a visual presentation will be prepared.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

The research scanning and the presentation quality of the students will be an important criteria in evaluation. They will also be observed while answering the questions in the lessons and participating the discussions after the lessons. Their creativity and originality will also be taken into consideration.

Assessment Criteria

Presentations and finished projects are evaluated at the end of the term. It is %80 compulsary to attend the classes.

Course Policies and Rules

After the theoretical knowledge will be given both orally and written, the practices will be made one-to-one with the students. The students are informed about the next lesson s subject and are expected to make a pre-study about it.
