Course Objective

The aim of this course is to provide an introduction to the role of the manager and management functions, organization theory and interpersonal communication as they pertain to the management of work groups and organizations. Topics include the concepts and philosophies of functions of management, employment relations, business and society, entrepreneurship and apply them to contemporary issues in management. Focuses on the concepts and methods of managing organizations, principles and practices used. The objective is to identify, apply and evaluate techniques for structuring and solving managerial problems.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Establish the overview of organizational concepts and theories of management.
2   Explain and analyze the role of planning, organizing, leading and controlling in management as it relates to the general operations of organization.
3   Understand the types of decisions made in business, and be familiar with the decision-making process explaining steps to be taken in making decisions.
4   Integrate organization into the business entity.
5   Diagnose management issues, generate solutions, and recommendations to solve the issue.
6   Demonstrate an understanding of social responsibility and managerial ethics distinguished among two different views in order to maintain an ethical organizational environment.
7   Develop oral/written communication skills; articulate and defend his/her position
8   Develop and enhance the essential interpersonal skills to be an effective team member.
9   Develop critical analysis skills through written and oral communications.
