Course Objective

The course aims to help students acquire a critical approach to arts and artists of
modernism and postmodernism. The course will examine the origins and development of Modern Art and Design, including Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture. Its purpose is to help the student gain an understanding of some of the major ideas behind and the relationship between the concept and representation of the visual.The course has a strong practical aspect to consolidate the students understanding of the production, presentation, dispersion and transformation of art: Visits to cultural institutions, art galleries, artists studios and visits to class from guests from different fields of the world of art will give students a first-hand experience of the
constantly-changing and multilayered structure of the art scene.

1   To revise the knowledge of modern art
2   To study different artistic approaches
3   To interpret modern art
4   To gather, arrange and interpret different resources of modern art
5   To explore the interdisciplenary aspects of art
6   Discuss the artwork and practice with the help of contemporary art theory
7   Understand the role of contemporary actors, such as the artist, the curator and the critique in arts production and dissemination
8   Visiting current exhibitions and develop a critical language about these arts exhibitions
9   Have good command of contemporary art theories and practices both in Turkey and on the international leve
10   Develop an advanced grasp of various ways and forms of expression for contemporary art
