Course Objective

The aim of this course is to teach the basic principles of individual labor law and collective labor law and to enable students to learn about Turkey's working relationships. Taking into account the provisions of the employment contract and the rights and obligations of the parties, it is also intended to ensure that the students learn the legislation applicable to the employment relations between employers and employers in enterprises.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to gain knowledge in the field of labour law, to learn the methods of reaching and interpreting of its sources, to adopt the purpose of the law and to gain legal perspective;
2   To able to solve the legal problems that emerge in the different functions of economics by using scientific methods, interpret data and interpret the results;
3   To be able to use theoretical and practical knowledge gained in the basic fields of labour law and associate them with knowledge of the other fields of the economics.

Course Contents

1 The subject, resources and the basic principles of labor law
2 Historical background of labour law, labour organisations
3 Basic concepts of labour law (employee, employer, employer's representative (manager), workplace and enterprise)
4 Individual labour law: scope of labour law, kinds of labour contracts
5 Making of labour contracts, obligations generated from labour contracts; safety and health at work
6 Regulations of work conditions, i.e., working time, overtime work and paid vacations
7 Midterm
8 Midterm
9 Termination of labour contracts and their results, severance pay
10 Collective labor law: Employee and employer trade unions and confederations
11 Trade union rights of employees; the scope and the end of the collective agreements
12 Collective labor disputes and solutions,mediation. Strike and lockout.
13 Analysis of examples of labor agreements and collective labor agreements
14 Analysis of the practical problems between employer and employee
15 Final exam
16 Final exam
