Course Objective

The objective of this course is to develop an understanding of the diversity strategies, practices and discourses that contribute to organizations and communities as well as explain the impact of cultural, religious, ethnic, age, sexual and disabled diversity on personal, group and organizational effectiveness from both a leadership, management and employee perspective in tourism.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   to define the meaning and importance of diversity concept for tourism
2   to understand the guiding concepts of diversity in a psychological and sociological study of diversity
3   to discuss the major debates in social science concerning the study of diversity
4   to provide real life examples for the role of diversity, equality and inclusion on tourism enterprises
5   to explain the dominant theoretical paradigms utilized by scholars to understand diversity discourse and practices in tourism
