Course Objective

The aim of this course is to determine the rates at which reactions occurs and how these rates can be expressed mathematically, determine different types of equilibrium reactions, factors affecting a system at equilibrium and discuss the relationship between chemical reactions and energy change

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Develop a full understanding of the rates at which reactions occur and learn how to express the equilibrium position of a reaction in quantitative terms and factors that determine the relative concentrations of reactant and products at equilibrium
2   Express the acid-base balance of acid and base structure
3   Use the knowledge of energy changes that accompany chemical reactions and relationship between Gibbs free energy and chemical equilibrium
4   Knows basic principles and applications of electrochemistry
5   Understands basics of nuclear chemistry, metals, non-metals, coordination compounds and biological chemistry.
