Course Objective

The aim of the course is to get the students acquainted with the biologies and systematics of the vertabrate animals, including the other members of the chordates and hemichordates.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To gain the main characteristics of chordates
2   To be able to description and classification of the basic features of cartilaginous fishes.
3   To be able to description of the basic features of the bony fishes.
4   To gain the basic features of amphibia.
5   To gain the main characteristics of reptiles
6   To gain the basic features of the birds
7   To gain the general characteristics of mammals

1 Properties and classification phylum of Chordata
2 Subphylum Tunicata. Cephalochordata and Vertebrata (General properties).
3 Introduction to vertebrates -Cyclostomata (round-mouthed fishes)
4 Chondrichthyes (cartilaginous fishes) (Sharks, rough ray+ cat fish)
5 Osteichthyes (Bony fishes)
6 Properties and classification of frog: Classis: Amphibia, Ordo:Apoda and Urodela
7 Properties and classification of frog: Classis: Amphibia, Ordo:Anura
8 Midterm
9 Introduction to Reptilia -Reptilia -Rhynchocephalia -Testudiniata (Turtles)
10 Reptilia II -Crocodilian (Crocodiles) -Sauria (= Lacertilia) (Lizards)-Amphisbaenia (footless lizards)
11 Reptilia III - Serpentes (= Ophidia) (snakes)
12 Properties and classification of Aves
