Course Objective

To introduce fundamental concepts and laws of mechanics which in this course covered. Make students to understand meanings of these concepts and laws, relationships between them. To relate fundamental concepts and laws of mechanics which in this course covered with everyday life examples. To gain ability of problem solving by using what they learned.

2   Being able to describe the laws of mechanics which in this course covered.
3   Being able to grasp the relationships between fundamental mechanics concepts which in this course covered.
4   Being able to relate the laws of mechanics which in this course covered with everyday life examples and being able to give samples.
5   Being able to think, to ask and solve a faced problem or difficulty by using the concepts and laws of mechanics which in this course covered
6   Being able to describe the importance of the concepts and laws of mechanics which in this course covered with justification.
7   Being able to give original, new examples on the subjects of mechanics which in this course covered.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Static equilibrium, rotation of a solid object around a fixed axis, angular displacement, velocity and acceleration;
2 Rotation kinematics, rotational motion with constant angular acceleration
3 Calculate of the moment of inertia;
4 Torque, the relationship between torque and angular acceleration, work, power and energy in rotation,
5 Rolling motion of a solid object, vectorial product and torque;
6 Angular momentum of a particle, angular momentum of a rotating solid object,
7 Mid-term exam
8 Conservation of angular momentum, gyroscope and topac motion;
9 Static equilibrium and elasticity, equilibrium conditions, center of gravity, elasticity and plasticity, examples of static equilibrium solid bodies;
10 Flexibility features of solids;
11 Simple harmonic motion, mass, revision of spring system, energy of simple harmonic oscillator;
12 Pendulum, vibration motion,
13 Comparison of simple harmonic motion with regular circular motion,
14 Damped oscillations, forced oscillations.
15 Final Exam
