Course Objective

This course will enable participants to gain a full understanding of the learning theories and approaches related to concept and literacy development in early childhood and thus contribute in the development of teaching skills.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Describe the basic definitions and concepts related to concept and language development.
2   Understand major theories and empirical research regarding child development in language/literacy
3   Develop developmentally appropriate practices that support language and concept development in children.
4   Understand how to use a variety of assessment strategies to monitor young children s progress and to plan literacy activities.
