Course Objective

This course aims to provide an introduction to acquaint students with computers as tools of information processing and their applications. Students will be familiar with computer hardware, software and telecommunication devices. They may easily understand the features of the technological instruments used at the area of information technologies. They will be able to make applications related to the word processor, spreadsheets, and databases.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Demonstrate an understanding of basic concepts of computer software and hardware components.
2   Demonstrate an understanding of telecommunication devices.
3   Make applications related to the word processor, spreadsheets, and databases.
4   Demonstrate awareness of fundamental information technologies.
5   Generate applications from real data and events.
6   Be able to solve problems involving understanding of the functional and algebraic concepts in Excel.
7   Evaluate relationships among data entities to design integrated database.

This course is managed through a distance learning platform. Students are expected to follow the learning resources and to apply self-quizzes and perfrom sample computer applications.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

Assignments (40%):
Starting from the fourth week, you will be assigned simulations each week. The due date for each simulation is that week s Friday at 23:55.

Quizzes (10%):
You will have a total of 5 quizzes (2 for Word, 1 for PowerPoint, and 2 for Excel). Quizzes will be available between monday mornings (9:00) until wednesday evenings (23:55). Check the course schedule for details.

Midterm Exam (20%):
Midterm exam will be online and the questions will be similar to simulation assignments. The exact dates will be announced with your midterm schedule.

Final Exam (30%):
Final exam will be in campus and there will be multiple choice questions about PowerPoint and Excel.
