Course Objective

The main goal of the course is to examine the conditions of change and alteration of societies with an aim of providing students with an understanding of the foundations of sociology. The historical development of sociology and its main interests are considered; the analysis of social facts and events and that of social institutions define the course content.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Be able to explain the birth and development of sociology.
2   Be able to apprehend the main interests of sociology.
3   Understand the importance of sociology for modern societies.
4   know how to think about the problems of society.
5   contribute to the solutions of social problems.
6   apprehend the differences of sociology from other social sciences.
7   Explain the nature of social institutions.
8   Explain the social theories and concepts.
9   Explain the issues of the woman question, family, urbanization, youth, inequality, power
10   Understand the main characteristics of social order, change and stratification.
11   Analyze the main institutions of modern societies.
