Course Objective

This course aims to introduce diplomacy, diplomatic language and types of diplomatic correspondence. The course aims at creating awareness for diplomacy as a profession.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Demonstrate understanding of diplomacy in general, and use diplomacy terms and diplomatic language.
2   Obtain expertise on a specific country or organisation
3   Become familiar with various diplomatic concepts such as public diplomacy, summit diplomacy etc
4   Be able to identify and formulate diplomatic notes such as signed note, verbal note and other diplomatic message
5   Obtain knowledge and information about diplomacy as a profession and the life of a diplomat
6   Develop their skills in writing formal essays both in English and Turkish.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

1. Lecture: There will be lecture sessions about diplomacy, diplomat and diplomatic language.
2. Weekly oral reports: Students will give short information about the developments in their project countries.
3. Presentations: Students will give presentations at the end of the term.

At the end of this course the learner :
1. will demonstrate understanding of diplomacy, specific terms used in diplomacy.
2. will write essays in English and Turkish
3. will study a country or organisation(International Expertise Project) by following the daily developments and present this information in every lesson.
4. will identify and formulate diplomatic notes.

1. It is obligatory to attend at least 70% of the classes.
2. Violations of plagiarism of any kind will result in disciplinary steps being taken
3. Participation is necessary for the success in the course.
