NATURAL BUILDING STONES AND GEMSTONES

Course Objective

Natural stones are frequently use as building material both engineering and architecture. They can be use various purpose in architecture such as load-bearing, cladding, covering or filling materials. Natural stones have been used in load bearing wall of traditional construction system in architecture. However, they are frequently in use as a cladding material in contemporary architecture. Therefore in this course, types, properties, installation systems and application methods of stone slabs in architecture, will be examined.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Recognizing the characteristics of natural stone cladding.
2   Evaluating and reading architectural projects.
3   Identifying the architectural usage objectives of natural stones.
4   Designing the tile cladding with natural stones and prepare an application details.
5   Designing the wall cladding with natural stones and prepare an application project.
6   Analyzing and designing the wall cladding systems.
7   Planning the curtain- wall systems.
