Course Objective

The course aims to provide an introduction to space geometry required to design architectural shell surfaces.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Recognizing the fundamentals of space geometry.
2   Recognizing the importance of space geometry in architecture.
3   Understanding the mathematical modeling of architectural shell surfaces.
4   Developing the analytical and mathematical abilities related to design aspects.
5   Recognizing how to undertake mathematical knowledge and combine it with architectural expectations.

1 3D coordinates in space. Orthogonal, polar and cylindrical coordinates.
2 Lines and planes in space.
3 Intersections of lines and planes in space.
4 Cylindrical surfaces.
5 Conic surfaces.
6 Intersection curves of a cone and a cylinder.
7 Mid-term Exam I
8 Quadric surfaces.
9 Ellipsoidal surfaces.
10 Hyperbolic surfaces.
11 Parabolic surfaces.
12 Translated and rotated quadric surfaces.
13 Intersection curves of quadric and conic surfaces.
