Course Objective

The purpose of Digital Video Processing course is to cover the fundamentals of digital video signal generation and further processing over the communication systems. In particular, this course will cover terminology of analog and digital video signals processing, and makes students understand the spatio-temporal sampling, motion analysis, parametric motion models, motion-compensated filtering, and video processing operations including noise reduction, restoration, interlacing, video sampling structure conversion, and compression. A number of advanced topics will be covered, including video segmentation and layered video representations, video streaming and digital TV standards.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be familiar with fundamental methods of video processing.
2   To be able to understand the contemporary standards on video compression.
3   To be able to design solutions to real-world problems using digital video processing.
4   To be able develop working digital video processing systems using MATLAB.
5   To be able to explain, compare and contrast digital video processing techniques.
