Course Objective

In this lecture, our aim is to examine European Union culture identity politics, and discussing this issue. Those articles mentioned below, are given for guiding and to shape our discussion. In this framework, students are supposed to prepare by reading article before class and they are supposed to create active discussion environment.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To distinguish the categories of religious, national, and cultural motives that affect the formation of European identity,
2   To define the Europe nationalisms in the context of the nationalism theories,
3   To comprehend the impact of EU on the European identity, and to grasp, the relationship between European identity, European citizenship and immigration cases,
4   To evaluate in which extend the culture and identity issues affect European integration,
5   To examine to what extent the rising nationalism and xenophobia in Europe after 9/11, impact to the so called multicultural identity of Europe.

12 The emergence of the nation state
13 EU, Migration Policies and Multiculturalism
14 The work of EU Institutions related to Common Identity Policies and their implementation difficulties.
