Course Objective

To get knowledge about the Medinan period of Islam and the activities of the Prophet Muhammad in the period

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Get knowledge about the sources of Islamic history; social and religious life of Arabs in pre-Islamic period; the pre-nubuwwa life of Prophet Muhammad and his spreading faith
2   Get knowledge about the Hijrah, major events of Medina and the expeditions of the Prophet.
3   Learn the social, political and religious life of the Muslims in the time period of the Prophet
4   Gain the ability of criticizing and analyzing in order to understand and evaluate the historical events
5   Learn, comprehend and teach properly the Prophet Muhammad s life, personality and his contributions to human life

4 The Prophet's relations with Mushriqs: Battles of Badr, Uhud and Handak
5 Treaty of Hudaybiyah The conquest of Mecca- Battle of Hunain
6 Relations with Jews; Qurayzah, Nadir, Kainuqah, Haybar Jews
7 Relations with Christians: treaty with Najran Christians, Battles of Tabuq and Muta
8 Midterm exam
9 Relations with tribes around Medina and other Arab tribes
10 Administrative, military and economical organization in the period of Prophet Muhammad
