Course Objective

To get students to apprehend the process of Philosophy of History appeared in the 19th century until gaining an independent feature of the disciplines of philosophy and history; to compare the ideas in Islamic world to the approaches and movements shown in the West; and to gain a critical thinking on the general definition of history, the nature of human being s action, and their relation with historiography.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   will discuss on the concept of Philosophy of History
2   will gain an understanding on how transforming from the Cycling History in Greeks to the linear history in Christianity affected the development of Philosophy of History
3   will apprehend how the Philosophy of History was called as an independent discipline through the understanding of History developed in Islamic Middle Age and especially the works of Ibn Khaldun
4   will understand the discussions and learn the movements and schools which were appeared especially in the New Age and the Enlightenment in order to bound History as accepted the knowledge of particular and Philosophy as the knowledge of general under the title of Philosophy of History
