Course Objective

The aim of the course deals with meaning of concepts like Balkans and Balkanization, strategical importance of region, Great Powers historical policy and objectives on Balkans and effects created by their rivalry, Ottomans resisting efforts and policies they followed, Balkans place inside changing world balance after Cold War and Great Powers new strategies on Balkans.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Ability to explain strategical importance and borders of Balkans
2   Ability to interpret effects of nationalism on Balkans (19th-21st centuries)
3   Ability to research political effects of Great Powers on Balkans
4   Ability to analyze experiences Balkans furnished to Ottoman/Turkish diplomacy
5   Ability to evaluate Balkans role in Turkish and Global policy with presentations
