Course Objective

The main goal of this course is to give a general evaluation about the process of modern turkish democracy and its stages

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   know scope, field and sources of history of Turkish democracy
2   understand political and democratic heritage taken over from the Ottoman Empire
3   explain efforts to create infrastructure of modernization and democracy in the early years of the Republic
4   examine the process of democratization of Turkey in comparison with the West
5   5. analyze breaking points in the process of democratization from Empire to Republic
6   6. describe causes of problems which the democracy lived in Republican Period
7   evaluate history of Turkish democracy in comparison with Europe and World

1. 70 % of attendance in a subject for appearing in the examination is compulsory
2. Failure to attend a class will not be excused for overdue delivery of homework
3. Attendance, mid-term exam, homeworks and final exam will be taken into account in scoring
