Course Objective

This course aims to introduce students to the international role and external relations of the European Union in world politics amongst other foreign policy actors. The course will start with conceptual and theoretical analysis of EU s foreign policy actorness and proceed with an extensive overview of the historical background of European Political Co-operation to the foundation of Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), the focus will be put on the institutional and legal analysis of the CFSP, the foundation of European Security and Defense Policy (ESDP), EU s external relations and external policies under the light of the recent developments that are hot on the debate.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   demonstrate understanding of the conceptual and theoretical analysis of EU's foreign policy actorness.
2   be familiar with the historical background of European Political Co-operation till the foundation of Common Foreign and Security Policy.
3   demonstrate understanding of EU's decision making in external relations by focusing on institutional and legal analysis of the CFSP.
4   demonstrate understanding of the foundation of European Security and Defense Policy (ESDP), EU's external relations and external policies.
5   describe and explain critically the sensitive and problematic issues regarding EU s international actorness in world politics.
6   will be able to make power-point presentations in class-room.
7   will be able to engage in discussions with the rest of co-learners as well as the lecturer.
8   will be able to get access independently to the relevant sources, including IR and media material.

1. Will describe and explain the conceptual and theoretical analysis of EU s foreign policy actorness.
2. Will describe and explain the historical background of European Political Co-operation till the foundation of Common Foreign and Security Policy.
3. Will describe and explain the EU s decision making in external relations with an emphasis on institutional and legal analysis of the CFSP.
4. Will describe and explain the foundation of European Security and Defense Policy (ESDP), EU s external relations and external policies.
5. Will describe and explain the sensitive and problematic issues regarding EU s international actorness in world politics from a critical perspective.
6. Will use IT knowledge to prepare power-point presentations.
7. Will be able to express views in a clear, precise and self-confident manner.
8. Will use library and internet sources.
