Course Objective

The aim of this course is to introduce the students with different methodological approaches within the discipline of International Political Economy and to provide them with a historical perspective on different state-society dynamics that regulate the relations between the state, capital and labour. The course starts with analyzing different approaches debating the relation between politics and economics and proceeds with different historical periods since the modern nation state formation process in the merchantilist period and ends with globalization and its alternatives.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Students will gain an understanding about the relations between economics and politics and/or state and society relations 2   Students will become familiar with different dynamics of state, capital and labour relations at different periods in history 3   Students will demonstrate understanding about the relation between politics and economics from different approaches in IPE 4   Students will develop critical skills to reflect on different dynamics of globalization 5   Students will be able to write summaries and book reviews
