Course Objective

The aim of this class is to examine the innovative journey of the Turkish Islamic Art, that started after Turks had come to Anatolia, by observing the basic representational differences as Seljuks, Beyliks and Early Ottomans, Classical Ottomans and Late Ottomans periods. And also, to analyze their design features in respect of geographical, cultural, and traditional effects.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Get knowledge about the birth of Turkish Islamic Art in Anatolia and its first examples; and understand the clear references of it.
2   Analyze the Anatolian Turkish Islamic Art chronologically and orderly by their representational differences in concepts
3   Explain the effects of ancient culture and traditions to design features in Anatolia.
4   Gains the ability to interpret the interactions between traditional design features and regional potentiality, and their reflections on architectural imagination
5   Gains the ability to research in his field.

9 Iznik, Bursa and Edirne in early Ottoman Art
10 Developmental process of Ottoman Art before conquest of Istanbul.
11 Istanbul and classical age of Ottoman Art: religious architecture
12 Istanbul and classical age of Ottoman Art: secular architecture
13 Westernisation period in Ottoman Art.
