Course Objective

The course aims to teach the styles of vase painters of the Attic pottery which was the pioneer of ancient Greek ceramic art. In this context, pottery styles and development of styles seen between 7th and 4th century BC will be investigated and the styles of the prominent painters of the Attic vase painting with samples of vases, development of their art and dating problems, will be discussed in detail.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To recognize the styles of the first painters of Geometric period
2   To recognize important painters of the Protoattic style
3   To distinguish the works and styles of the important Attic black figure painters.
4   To recognize The Andokides Painter who invented the red-figure and other pioneer painters
5   To distinguish the works and styles of important Archaic Attic red figure painters
