Course Objective

The aim of this course is to ensure a knowledge regarding the norms and applications regarding marine insurance law, provide a general view of marine insurance principles and ensure the students to make connection between norms and marine insurance applications.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Identifying national and international norms related with marine insurance law
2   Implementing the norms and the maritime insurance application by analysing legal cases
3   Attributing national and international insurance instutitions
4   Critizing the applications regarding marine insurance problems
5   Interpreting the missing parts of the rules and generate to create the standard arrangement

1 Introduction to Law: Why law, Sources of Law, Classification of Law, Place of Insurance Law
2 Main Features of Insurance law: Classification of insurance, Mutual insurance, Reinsurance, Invalid insurance, Form of insurance agreement, Rights and obligations of the insurer, Subrogation, Assignment, Recourse, Right of direct appeal
3 Introduction to Marine Insurance: Place of maritime law, Insurable interest, Right to demand insurance indemnification in CIF and FOB sales, Specialized aspects (Reasonable time, Different voyage, Change of voyage, Deviation), Marine adventure
4 Student Presentation Related With The Above Two Week s Keywords - Find 3 (three) articles related with the above placed keywords, - Explain them in the classroom and give a brief report related with them, Your report and three articles should be attached to your homework. (%10)
