Course Objective

This course aims to provide a systematic and comprehensive description of structure of contemporary Standard Turkish.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1	identify the complex syntactic structures of the Turkish Language
2	recognize the functions and the meanings of the complex syntactic structures such as nominalization, adjectival and adverbial clauses
3	identify the syntactic structures, meaning and functions of conditional sentences
4	develop an awareness of the meanings and functions of complex syntactic structures of Turkish
5	recognize the semantic and functional properties of complex syntactic constructions such as passivization, causativity, reflexivity and reciprocity
6	write a comprehensive analysis of the theoretical problems in Turkish grammar

3	Complex sentences: Subordination. Formal properties of subordinate clauses. Syntactic properties of subordinate clauses
4	oun Clauses. Nominalization markers. Syntactic functions of Noun Clause. Types of noun clauses. Factive nominals Active nominals
5	Adjectival Clauses. Modification. Morphological properties of adjectival clauses. Syntactic properties of adjectival clauses. Pragmatic functions of adjectival clauses
6	Adverbial Clauses. Gerunds. Finite adverbial clauses.
7	Nonfinite adverbial clauses: Structural characteristics Nonfinite adverbial clauses: Semantic classification
8	Midterm Presentations
9	Conditional clauses. The grammatical marking of conditional clauses
10	Coordination and Discourse connection
11	The effects of coordination and Discourse connection
12	Topic: Topic Position in Turkish. Focus: Focus position in Turkish
