Course Objective

This course is designed as an introduction to qualitative research methods. The course will emphasize the realist case study research strategy for purposes of description, theory building, and theory-testing.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Be familiar with the spectrum of qualitative methods and techniques
2   Understand the elements of case study research design and know its appropriate evaluation criteria
3   Know about and practice using the tools developed to support qualitative research
4   Practice key qualitative research skills including: research design, interviewing, datamanagement, coding, advanced analysis techniques, and writing up qualitative research
5   Evaluate published qualitative studies according to relevant evaluation
