Course Objective

To examine relevant Turkish legislation, comparative law datas, international covenant
provisions (especially European Convention on Human Rights and UN Convention on the
Elemination of All Forms of Discrimination Againist Women), Constitutional Court
decisions and other important judicial decisions and international supervisory
mechanisms decisions by explaining concepts of equality, prohibition of discrimination,
equality of women and men and discrimination againist women within the framework of
gender equality perspective; in this context to emphasize neccesity of equality of
women and men in order to existing of real equality, human rights and democracy in a
society.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to determine problems at issues of gender equality, equality of women and men and discrimination againist women.
2   To be able to generally have full knowledge of legislation, practice and judicial decisions at issues of gender equality, equality of women and men and discrimination againist women
3   To be able to analyse practice and legislation regarding gender equality.
4   To be able to probe developments in the field of human rights of women.
5   To be able to question the relationship between human rights of women and generally human rights law while having this course

7 Covenant regarding human rights of women: Examining United Nations Convention on the Elemination of All Forms of Discrimination Againist Women (CEDAW)
8 Midterm Exam
9 Recommendations of CEDAW Committee and individual application to CEDAW Committee
10 Decisions and comments of CEDAW Committee at the end of individual applications
11 Provisions within Europen Convention on Human Rights regarding equality of women and men and elemination of discrimination againist women
12 Decisions of Europen Court of Human Rights regarding equality of women and men and elemination of discrimination againist women
13 Equality of women and men and discrimination againist women in other international covenants and decisions of other supervisory mechanisms
14 Relationship between gender equality and violance againist women; measures regarding prevention violance againist women and Positive obligations of states at issues of providing equality of women and men and elemination of discrimination againist women and affirmative action
