Course Objective

Aim of this course is to deal with how gender perceiving in world religions, and to study religions point of views on gender in respect of sacred texts, traditions and legal norms; and to point out whether discriminations are stem from religions itself or history and culture; and to seek potential of religions to overcome sexism and gender discrimination.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   to be able to learn how gender is perceived in religious traditions and sacred texts
2   to be able to perceive similarities and differences between religions on gender
3   to be able to see religious fundamentals of which gender discriminations are based on
4   to be able to distinguish the difference between religious and cultural gender discrimination
5   to have an idea on whether religious traditions can make a positive contribution to gender discrimination or not
