Course Objective

The objectice of this course is to have the students discover the relationship between language and gender; challenge sterotypical gender roles which are expressed and sustained by language in the society and build up a critical view on how gender is morphologically, semantically or pragmatically encoded and constructed in language relating them to feminist theories as well.

1   To explain the relationship between language and gender in general
2   To explain how gender is constructed in language through examples,
3   To identify streotyped explicit or implicit gender roles in written or spoken texts,
4   To investigate and challenge the relationship between language, gender and society
5   Explain gender roles within the framework of feminist theory,
6   To discuss overlapping and intersecting points of language, gender and feminist theories
