Course Objective

The aim of this course is explain how to use statistical quality control techniques to control and improve processes which produce products and services

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   to be able to determine abnormalities in a process by using control charts.
2   to be able to determine process capability of meeting the specification limits.
3   to be able to differentiate common and special causes of variations in a process
4   to be able to plan sampling based acceptance inspection activities.
5   to be able to analyse the results of a measurement system verification study

1 Basic concepts of statistical quality control
2 Relationship between quality and variation
3 Analysing process variation by using frequency tables and graphics
4 Summary statistics for processes: Mean, variance and standard deviation
5 Some important discrete probability distributions: Binomial, hypergeometric and Poisson distributions
6 Some important continuous distributions: Normal and exponential distributions
7 Statistical process control: X-bar - R control charts for variables
8 Statistical process control: X-bar - S control charts for variables
9 Statistical process control: X - MR control charts for variables
10 Statistical process control: p and np control charts for attributes
11 Statistical process control: c and u control charts for attributes
12 Process capability analysis: Cp and Cpk indices
13 Process capability analysis: Cpu, Cpl and Cpm indices
14 Acceptance sampling
