Course Objective

In this course, the works exhibited in the World museums and important collections from the Byzantine period in the presence of metals, glass, ceramics, ivory, cloth, etc.. with technical and stylistic characteristics of the work will be discussed. In addition, the appreciation of Byzantine culture and ways of thinking about the implications will be carried out.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   The understanding of the main concept and terminology about Byzantine glass, oil lamps, ivory, ceramics and lead seals
2   The objects which were produced between 4th to 15th centuries will be distinguished according to their typology, style, technic and chronological order.
3   The relations of these items with the modern different cultures products
4   The evaluation of these artifacts according to workshop, technic-material, the supply and demand points and the user profile. The determination of the artifacts within socially and economically
5   To transfer their savings to the science museum

5 Ivory art of the Late Antique-Early Byzantine Period (with visual material).
6 Ivory art of the Middle and Late Byzantine Period (with visual material).
7 The terminology and Technical Information of Byzantine Ceramics (accompanied by visual materials).
