Course Objective

The objective of the course is to teach the meaning of linguistic and non-linguistic signs and the ways of revealing the universe of meaning by using semiotic theory tools of the type of texts (verbal or visual).

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to explain the concept of the sign and its features within the framework of linguistic theories
2   To be able to explain the working directions of semiotics theory and its relationship with other fields (linguistics, semantics, sociology, psychology, philosophy, logic, anthropology, epistemology)
3   To be able to explain the relationship between semiotics and communication theories
4   To be able to analyze all genres of texts by using semiotics theory
5   To be able to explain the historical background and basic foundations of the formation stages of semiotics theory
