Course Objective

The purpose of the course is to make learn main phases of Greek civilization that occured since 2nd Millenium BC, to show basic battles and treaties of Greek world and in consequence to reflect to students social-politic and social-cultural daily life of Greek world

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1. to demonstrate and exercise independence of mind and thought.
2   2. to know the Modern and ancient literature about course of Ancient Greek History.
3   3. to know main historical events (battles, treaties) which efect Greek civilization
4   4. to understand main imigrations and colonizations in ancient Greek history.
5   5. to learn main politic events and politic formations which appeared during ancient Greek
6   6. Students are expected to have the necessary knowledge and skills to assess the cause and effect relations caused by political and social developments.

2 Historical geography and geograohical boundaries of Greek civilization.
3 Aegean immigrations and Dorian invation. Dark Ages. Reading (O. Tekin, Eski Yunan ve Roma Tarihine Giriş).
4 Greek city-states in Eastern Greece and realitons between Greek and Phrygian, Lydian civilizations.
5 Ancient Greek colonization, colonies and new social structure of Greek society. Reading (A.M. Mansel, Ege ve Yunan Tarihi).
6 Reforms at Athens. Reading (A.M. Mansel, Ege ve Yunan Tarihi).
7 Greco-Persian Battles. Ionian Revolution, Attic-Delian League. Reading (J.K. Williams, The Empire of the Ancient Greece; O. Tekin, Eski Yunan Tarihi, Iletişim Yayınları).
8 Mid-term exam
