Dokuz Eylül University- From the Past to Today

Dokuz Eylül University (DEU) is a state university inaugurated in 1982 by integrating 24 faculties and educational institutions of Ege University, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Culture and Tourism. In 1992, 10th Anniversary, the number of academic units reached to 41 which were located in 5 different cities in the Aegean Region. Subsequently some of these units have become founding faculties for other universities established in the region. Taking advantage of starting with well-founded diverse core academic units and expanding with new academic and administrative units DEU, soon after its establishment, has become one of the leading higher education institutions in Turkey.

DEU gives priority to continuous improvement and acknowledges the importance of education, research, innovation and knowledge transfer. Within this scope, DEU has continued to develop and soon after its establishment, it has become one of the leading universities in Turkey regarding the number of students, academic and administrative staff and regarding the diversity and quality of academic units involved.

In the 2013-2014 academic year, DEU provides service to 54895 students in 13 faculties, 5 graduate schools, 4 schools, 1 conservatory, 6 vocational schools, 5 Institutes, 49 research centers and 1 technoparc with 3151 academic and 3328 administrative staff. DEU is a multi-campus university with 13 campuses located in several districts of İzmir. The academic and administrative units of DEU cover in total 5 731 800 square meters (670 573 sqm) and they are located in Alsancak, Balçova, Narlıdere, Buca (Center– Dokuzçeşmeler – Tınaztepe) Hatay, Torbalı, İnciraltı, Urla, Seferihisar, Ürkmez, Foça and Karşıyaka.
