General Description

History

Dokuz Eylül University, the Department of Translation and Interpreting was established in the academic year 1997-1998 under the roof of the Faculty of Science and Letters, offering both undergraduate and graduate studies. The Department started to accept its first graduate students in 1999 and undergraduate students in 2005. Since the Faculty of Science and Letters separated in 2010 as the Faculties of Science and the Faculty of Letters, our department has been incorporated under the Faculty of Letters. The aim of the undergraduate program is to train qualified translators and interpreters who have an advanced command in English and German in the fields of law, economics, finance, literature, social and natural sciences, technical subjects, medicine, politics, international relations and other newly-developing disciplines. In the undergraduate program, an intensive teaching program is carried out, with the aim that the students can use both German and English at an advance level. In the four-year program, students are trained to meet the expectations of the business world and the European Union in both languages.
