Course Objective

Beginning from the question what is history, sense of history, nationality universality, the cult of the hero, the authors taking those as material in their plays, discussion on messages of historical plays to present time and introduction of their developlent process

1   The importance of historicism forming the text in the field of Performing Arts dramatic writing
2   Having the cultural accumulation about the field
3   Acquire ability to do the research about the period and with that academic comment and evaluation capability
4   Interpretation and discussion concerning today, and messages of the eras speaking to current times.

1 What is history What we understand from historical awareness
2 The definition of Historical Drama and Lindenberger thoughts on it
3 How the Historical Drama writer uses the material texts loyal to history, texts containing a mixture of imagination and history
4 Data about, in what way the reasons shaping a historical event with certain result might be used by the author for the sake of today
5 Survey on the first historical play of theater history: Aiskhlos s Persler; and discussion of the concepts: the defeat, the victory and the relation between Persian-Greek
6 Dealing with the nationality and the universality in Historical Plays
7 The Cult Of Hero, from nationality to universality
8 The relation of society and the leader in Historical Plays: a survey on Orhan Asena s Korku
9 A historical character being far ahead of its own era (Ex. Şeyh Bedreddin) or being left behind even the era was ready for changes (Ex. Atçalı Kel Mehmet), a discussion of society in front of the history from the relation of society and leader.
10 Handling a character lived in the past: comments on processing in the plays Kırmızı Karaağaç/Güneyli Bayan/ or Halide by Bilgesu Erenus

12 Seminar: Two different writers handling a character lived in the past: Nazım Kurşunlu Fatih/ Turan Oflazoğlu Bizans Düştü
13 Seminar: The function of an imaginary character while dealing with the real people from the history (such as Halide Edip Adıvar-Adnan Adıvar-Rauf Bey-M.K.Atatürk-Ismet Inönü) using a character who is not part of the history (Naim Bey): the play 18 Mart 1920 by Orhan Asena
14 Seminar: One character featuring in three different plays of an author: discussion over the character Kösem in the plays IV.Murat-Deli Ibrahim-Kösem Sultan by Turan Oflazoğlu
