Course Objective

The course is intended to provide students with the skills needed to complete their thesis. The objective of this course is to urge students to understand a variety of empirical research papers using different techniques, so as to develop awareness of possible solutions to problems that the students may encounter as independent researchers in the future. It covers research design, data collection, and data analysis in translation studies.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   to acquire practical research skills for academic research in translation studies.
2   able to formulate a viable research question.
3   able to collect their own data using a variety of methods in translation studies.
4   able to link the research process with theories and methodologies of translation.
5   critically evaluate their research and that of other social scientists.

Assessment Criteria

The grade for homework includes submission of the research proposal and the introduction part of the research paper.The research paper (max. 20 pages, double space, 12 p. Times New Roman) is open to student s choice of topic which will be decided in the 4th or 5th week of the semester.
