Course Objective

This course aims to explore the texts throughout history that translators and interpreters have produced, and their positions and impact on the formation and planning of cultures and civilizations.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Students learn the historical evolution of translation both in Turkey and Europe.
2   They relate translation activity with social, cultural and political events in different periods of history.
3   They look into the factors effective in their choice of texts to be translated and their decisions during the process of translation and approaches to the texts.
4   They explore the identity of the translator in different periods.
5   They analyze the texts written by translators about translation and compare them with modern translation approaches.
