Course Objective

Cyber Culture and Visual Arts
The aim of the course is not only the conditions of the real world, but also the possibilities of the virtual world, because of the day-to-day development of the 1990s, the strengthening of digital technologies and the widespread use of the Internet. Many activities such as communication, education-learning, research, entertainment, socialization, trade, art are realized via internet. Millions of Internet users define cyber culture with these actions. It has a rich aesthetic potential as internet, media and environment with digital hardware and software. Therefore, New Media is one of the most important sources of contemporary art and the presence of Digital Art is a sign of this. The aim of the course is to discuss the above mentioned panorama through related artists and sample works and to give the students a critical view in this context.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   The students who take the lesson will have knowledge of basic terminology about Cyber Culture;
2   They will identify historical stages of cyber culture,
3   They will discuss interaction between Cyber Culture and New Media,
4   They will demonstrate the ability to evaluate the works of artists who represent digital art by a critical view,
5   They will design related art projects .
